All the Games in My Nintendo Switch Library

Here’s a look at the games I’ve spent the most time escaping into.

Nintendo Switch library

The Nintendo Switch has been out for 4 years, and I’ve accumulated quite a few video games since. I’m often asked about the games I’m playing, so I thought: wouldn’t it be great to just share my entire Nintendo Switch library?

For the sake of organization, I’ve divided this list by the total hours played. This is a good judge of how much I enjoyed a game, but not exactly—some shorter games were stellar, too, and my notes will reflect that.

Disclaimer: most of the games in my Nintendo Switch library are Japanese role-playing games since that is my favorite genre, followed closely by social simulators. You’ll see many titles like that on this list, so if you have similar interests, this post is for you.

1000+ Hours of Playtime

Animal Crossing: New Horizons — This goes without saying, friends. At the time I am writing this post, I have well over 1,110 hours in ACNH and there’s no sign of me stopping any time soon. Come visit my Dream Address!

100+ Hours of Playtime

Bravely Default II — The latest entry in the Bravely Default series (like Final Fantasy, II is not a sequel, but an entirely new game) was easily my favorite yet.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild — This game is the Nintendo Switch to me, since it came out at launch and blew everyone away. I spent over 220 hours in Hyrule and cannot wait for the sequel.

Pokémon Shield — The latest mainline Pokémon game is easily my favorite yet, thanks to the open-world Wild Area and its expansive DLC. After 225 hours, there’s still so many more Pokémon I need to collect.

Octopath Traveler — I was massively impressed with this HD 2D game by the same team who works on Bravely Default and spent over 125 hours doing absolutely everything I could. The mature storyline, reimagined art direction, and characters make this RPG a must-play.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses — My first proper Fire Emblem game did not disappoint. Well into my second play-through under a different house, there is so much plot and character development that you want to revisit it again and again just to uncover everything.

Splatoon 2 — The only shooter I ever loved, Splatoon 2 is vibrant, humorous, and massively fun. The monthly Splatfests really brought the community together and made me actually look forward to competitive play. I can’t wait for the sequel, out next year.

50+ Hours of Playtime

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity — As a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Age of Calamity was a no-brainer. I had to learn more about the events pre-BOTW and boy, did this game deliver. My favorite part was simply getting the chance to use Mipha, Urbosa, and Princess Zelda in combat.

Astral Chain – While this game took some time for me to get used to, I really enjoyed it. The mechanics are tricky at first, but once you understand how to control your Legions, the combat becomes so addictive, you actually smile when enemies approach.

Under 50 Hours of Playtime

Cozy Grove — This new Animal-Crossing-inspired game just came out in April. It’s humorous and charming, and its daily quests only require about an hour of playtime.

Overcooked! 2 — The ultimate couch co-op game that my family and I always play together. There is no such thing as Game Night without Overcooked.

Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee! — Charming and sweet, the debut Let’s Go! Pokémon game is a great entry point for fans young and old.

Ring Fit Adventure — Say what you want about Nintendo fitness, but this game makes me sweat. It’s fun, rewarding, and worth a try if you want to ease into a workout routine.

I Am Setsuna – This short JRPG has well-written characters and an even better, all-piano soundtrack.

Lost Sphear – This short JRPG comes from the same team that worked on I Am Setsuna and all the same vibes are there, plus a few well-needed tweaks.

Stardew Valley – As an Animal Crossing fan, I had to try Stardew Valley, but I’m unfortunately not much of a fan. While the graphics and plot are charming, the daily time limit stressed me out more than it should have.

Yonder – This short, open-world experience was sweet and welcoming, and satisfied my itch for new exploration.

Super Mario Party – The ultimate classic Game Night party game now comes with online play. Need I say more?

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Whether you enjoy racing games or not, you can’t deny the power Mario Kart has during Game Night. Can you even really own a Switch without owning Mario Kart? Is that even allowed?

  1. Can you believe that there are so many games you’ve mentioned that not only have I not played, but have never heard of!? I added them in a section of my bullet journal, so I can purchase them when I need a new game to play. I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy stardew valley, I actually have the game on the PC (where I have over 100 hours), and then I also have it for the switch! I’ve been recently spending most of my time playing Witcer 3 (for the xbox, but they do have it for the switch), Cozy Grove, and Harry Potter Lego. I’ve been enjoying all of them, but my favorite of the three is definitely Witcher 3! Great post Meg xx

    1. I watched my ex play Witcher 3 for well over 150 hours — it was actually quite enjoyable, and I totally get the hype around it. I’ve also heard great things about Harry Potter Lego, yet haven’t tried that myself!

Trust me, I’m also sad I didn’t really enjoy Stardew — it’s purely because of the clock, though. Everything else is so charming! I still remember Sebastian fondly (I was TOTALLY working on that one!)

      Thanks for reading! xo

  2. One day, I will reach your level of organization!! The fact that you’re not only able to divide up the list by hours played, but also notes on your experience with them, and the planning process you have for Animal Crossing….HOW? Honestly, being someone who doesn’t play too many video games for fear of becoming too addicted to them, this is becoming far too tempting. I feel like I would go into it for the sole purpose of having something else to plan out and organize.

I loved the animal crossing sketches that you’ve shared recently as well! I would be so keen on seeing a post that showcases more pages of that!!

    1. I told you I take my video games very seriously!! Hahaha I really wasn’t kidding! They are alternate realities, places I can escape to and vacation in — they’re truly like books in that sense, but I have all the control and sometimes, like in Animal Crossing’s case, the story is up to me!

If you EVER get into video games, or at least AC, you know who to talk to! But honestly, I don’t blame you for the hesitancy. They can truly be all-consuming if you let them. And sometimes, I do let them. 😉

More on my AC ~process~ coming soon!
