A quiet record of desk days—what I’m writing, working on, and figuring out along the way. This is Desk Diaries.
Confession: I may or may not have a sticker problem. For years, I’ve enjoyed collecting them — to the point where I have duplicates of my faves so I don’t accidentally run out. I even have stickers that I’ve saved for years, waiting for the right moment to use them. The perfect moment. One sticker in particular features a little dog wearing a raincoat. “I will use this sticker one day after walking my dog on a rainy day,” I thought. My dog passed away almost 2 years ago. I still have the sticker saved, but now the moment is long gone.
When I decided it was finally time to organize my sticker collection, I was not surprised by how many stickers I had, but how much space I would need to store them. Wisely. Before starting my project, I kept all my stickers in the plastic wrap they came in, then stuffed them into my desk drawer. It was so tedious to open each pack and look through them like a deck of cards that eventually, I just stopped. And so, many of my stickers sat there, unused, for quite some time.
Last year, I bought a sticker storage book. It worked for a while, but the problem was that it was bound, so once the stickers were in, it was a hassle to reorganize. The pockets were also only A5-sized, so they were only good for sticker sheets, not smaller die-cut stickers, which were the bulk of my collection. That’s when I got the idea to put them in a binder.
It solved both of my issues: I could easily reorganize sticker pages by popping them out and placing them where I needed, and I could buy sheets with different-sized compartments. Win/win. And so I got to work.
I organized my sticker collection for a couple of hours at a time. I needed two binders to get the job done, so I decided to make one binder (my red one) my main/seasonal binder, filled with all my favorite stickers and timely ones. Then I made a second binder (a yellow one) my “archive,” where I store out-of-season stickers, backups, dupes, and anything else I don’t use semi-daily. The yellow binder stays on my bookshelf. The red binder sits on my desk.
Now, whenever I sit down for a journaling session, I just flip through my binder where I can see all my stickers at a glance. It makes the process so much easier and enjoyable, and I no longer have to worry about forgetting which stickers I do have. It’s also yet another creative space for me to thumb through, and I love that so much.
