From my experience, you either love Sundays or you hate them. I’m a part of the former; I think Sundays are the perfect day of the week to sleep in, relax, and get in some serious, much-deserved self-care. One of my favorite things to do on a Sunday is pamper myself, and that includes taking care of my skin. While I tend to reach for L’Oreal’s pure clay masks to get the job down, this time, I tried Cosmedix’s Detox Activated Charcoal Mask—and I was impressed.
The cruelty-free skincare brand first caught my attention by its pretty packaging. While the presentation doesn’t necessarily mean the product works, thankfully, this mask worked very well for me. I have sensitive, combination skin so sometimes it is a challenge for me to find products that don’t dry out my skin or irritate it in any way. Some masks even leave my skin feeling too tight afterward, yet this one didn’t.
The Power of Charcoal
Charcoal masks work a bit like magnets do; they help absorb excess oil, dirt, and daily impurities, leaving your skin feeling and looking cleaner than ever. In addition to charcoal, this product contains kaolin clay, which helps unclog pores. Other active ingredients help exfoliate the skin while restoring the skin’s natural radiance.
At the brand’s recommendation, I put this mask on just before bed. After 15 minutes of it working its magic, the mask was easy to remove. Unlike some charcoal masks, this mask is very gentle and didn’t cause my skin to feel dry or irritated.
It’s about 3x the price of my favorite drugstore mask, so if you’re looking for a more luxurious brand to try, this might be a good one for you.
