“I think I’m catching feelings,” he finally admits one night, a bit disappointed or embarrassed or ashamed – I can’t tell which. But I can only think of butterfly nets like I’m 10 years old, and how I used to run around my yard trying to scoop up insects. Is that what he’s trying to tell me? That he’s caught butterflies for me and now he doesn’t know what to do with them?
“Please,” I tell him, shaking the thought from my head. I only ever wanted people to just be brave and say what they mean. “You mean you’re falling in love.”
