July 2016 Birchbox: My Morning Routine

Rest in peace, Birchbox’s previous review points program. A lot of Birchbox fans (including myself) were sad to see this scaled back so drastically as of July 11, but as someone who genuinely loves Birchbox and has for the past 3 years, I decided to still stick around, and for good reason: I mean, just look at this box. The theme this month was “My Morning Routine,” and every subscriber had the opportunity to choose their mascara sample of choice (of course I went with Benefit). After a week with these products, it’s time to share my thoughts!

First, the Good

Spoiler alert, but there is a lot of good on this list. I am such a fan of Benefit’s They’re Real! Lengthening Mascara ($24) and have owned this product twice already previously. Couldn’t pass up a travel-size, though! This mascara is one of my favorites (tied probably with Stila’s Huge Extreme Lash mascara) so I only have amazing things to say about it. Fuller, bolder lashes with clumping are on the way.

Next is Cartier’s Baiser Volé Lys Rose Eau de Toilette Spray ($90 for 1.7 oz). What do I love more than floral perfumes? Floral perfumes with hints of raspberry. Pretty, feminine, and sweet, this fragrance is perfect for summer, spring, fall–you name it. Plus the bottle is gorgeous! Definitely adding to my wish list, in case anyone wants to get a head-start on their holiday shopping…

Third is Balance Me’s Radiance Face Mask ($34). I’ve tried a bunch of Balance Me products before, and this one didn’t disappoint. This clay-based formula works with all skin types and exfoliates skin while brightening. I thought it worked really well really quickly, and my skin definitely felt a lot smoother after putting it on. Bookmarking this one for sure, since I love their other products, too!

Next is Clinique’s City Block™ Purifying Charcoal Cleansing Gel ($20), and with a price tag like that, I like it a lot. Clinique is known for its gentle, yet powerful formulas, and this product is no different. Made with charcoal, this gel quickly lathers to cleanse pores of dirt and makeup. Since I love a good charcoal cleanser, I’m gonna use this to the last drop.

On the Fence

I am, however, on the fence about LOC’s Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil in the shade “Punch Line” ($12) and for only one reason: I’m not that crazy about the color. The formula is creamy, comfortable, and the pencil/crayon applicator makes it easy to hold and apply, but there is the slightest bit of shimmer to it. I’d like to try this in the shade “Birthday Suit” or “Purple Rein” to see if I can change my mind. Not writing it off completely yet until then.
