Birchbox #7: May 2014

Well, this box just BARELY made it in, didn’t it? After quite a long delay, my “Freewheeling”-themed box finally arrived, and just in time for the unofficial start of summer. Since Birchbox teamed up with Kate Spade Saturday for this one, each box came with a $25-off coupon, and some great sunscreen tips. And with that said, let’s dive right in!

First up is the COOLA Environmental Repair Plus® Radical Recovery™ After-Sun Lotion, prized at $32 for a full size bottle. Immediately I liked how light and fluffy this lotion felt—it’s not at all heavy and goopy like some lotions I’ve tried lately—which is perfect for summer application. It’s meant to sooth sun-kissed or sunburned skin after too many hours of fun in the sun, which happens, I’m afraid, to the best of us.

Next, and possibly my favorite from this box, is PIXI Beauty Shea Butter Lip Balm in Coral Crush, for $8 a tube. As a lip balm addict (I probably cycle through 5-10 different balms at a time), I was very impressed with this shea butter formula. It goes on creamy and smooth and packs quite a powerful punch in the color category. Coral Crush is the perfect dainty summer red, and the applications last hours. Highly recommend for any other lip balm addicts out there who also want bold color.

Third is Caudalie Polyphenol C15 Overnight Detox Oil, priced at a whopping $65 for a bottle. This all-natural antioxidant acts as an overnight skin renewal oil that helps hydrate and purify skin, fine lines, and signs of aging. Having only tried this one night thus far, I haven’t noticed too much of a difference yet and honestly can’t vouch for its price tag, but I look forward to trying out the rest of the sample!

Fourth, and a close second favorite, is Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer, priced at $36 a tube. I’ve been dying to try this primer for months and was so excited to receive this sample. The hype was well worth it, as this oil-free primer smooths fine lines, minimizes the look of pores, and creates a perfect, light base for makeup. I’m now eager to try their newest primers for different skin types.

Finally, as a lifestyle extra, I received a packet of SmartyPants All-in-One Gummy Vitamins for Adults, priced at $29.99 per bottle. I take other vitamin gummies daily, but I liked that these also contain fiber to help with weight management. Seems like Birchbox was on to something with this pre-summer prep theme!

What about you? Did you receive a May Birchbox and get anything good?
