Less Is More: Aug/Sept 2017 Ed Letter

I don’t know about you, but I have a love/hate relationship with summer. The child in me loves the carefree adventures that only summer brings, but as a fashion and beauty enthusiast, I can’t say it’s my favorite season when it comes to style. I had that in mind while brainstorming content for this issue of Cliché Magazine: what the heck am I supposed to wear when it’s 90 degrees? I’m the kind of girl who loves to layer: jackets, sweaters, and even jewelry. So when it’s over 80 degrees, most of my creativity goes out the window. When it’s almost unbearable to put on anything at all, how do you still pull off a great look? That’s why I was…

The Golden Ratio

A few weeks ago while I was playing Persona 5, a test question popped up about the golden ratio. Being the English major and vocal Math-despiser that I am, I got this question wrong, but in turn learned something I probably forgot from high school: there is a formula for creating aesthetically pleasing designs. Now, I’m no mathematician, but when I spotted this yellow romper on Tobi’s website shortly after playing that night, the golden ratio popped into my mind—not just because of the color, obviously, but because it looked perfect to me. It was appropriately geometric: the deep v that dropped down to the high waistband, the rectangular shorts, and the triangular bell sleeves all seemed perfectly tailored and flattering. When I…

My Top 3 Favorite Nail Polish Brands

If you know me at all, you know I have a weakness for nail polish. In my 5 years of being the Editor in Chief of Cliché Magazine, I’ve been introduced to so many different nail polish brands. Different companies have sent me entire collections, bottles ranging from $8 each to $30 each. I plucked them from my mailbox, emptied them onto the floor like candy, and marveled at all the different colors and finishes. From speckled lacquers to opaque cremés to fast-drying mattes and pixie dust finishes, I’ve tried them all. But my heart has settled on these three favorite brands—and you may not have even heard of them. Zoya ($9-10/ea) Like most girls who shop at Ulta or Target,…

Makeup Revolution’s Rose Gold Blush Palette

When Makeup Revolution isn’t wow-ing me with their quality eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks, they’re wow-ing me with their prices. Now, their Golden Sugar 2 Rose Gold Ultra Professional Blush Palette is doing just that. I’ll admit I’m not a typical blush-wearer (in fact, I rarely ever incorporate blush in my beauty routine at all), but since Makeup Revolution sent me this palette to try, it’s been totally inspiring me to include it in my routine somehow. For only $10, the palette is a nice alternative from classic red and pink blushes, consisting of 8 shades in rose gold tones that are perfect for all skin types. You can use just one shade or blend a couple of them together for…

The Tale of the Red Romper

Wine Red Romper TOBI, Cognac Sandals CALL IT SPRING Twice a year I am reminded that I barely own any red clothing: Christmas and the Fourth of July. It always seems to sneak up on me last minute; mere days before an office party or holiday barbecue, I’m digging through my drawers, looking for anything red. It happened again a few weeks ago while I was planning Independence Day content for ClicheMag.com. I began receiving a few dozen emails from brands about planning the perfect Fourth of July bash when it hit me: did I have anything red? I had a red cardigan with gold sequined shoulder pads and a red, knit mock-neck crop-top, but both were too warm for…

Backstage at Naeem Khan Spring 2018 Bridal

I always enjoy going backstage during New York Fashion Week, but this was my first opportunity going backstage during Bridal fashion week. Although I admit I am definitely not the type of girl who has been thinking her wedding since she was little, I do love the beauty end of the occasion. The braided up-dos and flowy locks, timeless lipstick, and chiseled cheekbones are always so elegant. So you can imagine how pleased I was when my friend invited me to come backstage at Naeem Khan’s Spring 2018 Bridal Show in New York City this past April. Once backstage, I was introduced to the two founders of Make-Up Pro, Chika Chan and Cheve Chan, the New York City-based duo assigned to…
