There are two lip trends I really love: nude lips and matte formulas. I’ve tried tons of products looking for my perfect, go-to lip look. Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick ($24) didn’t budge and the shade Patina is pretty, but there aren’t enough “nude” colors just yet for me to fall completely in love. Kylie Cosmetics’ Exposed was FAR too drying and cracked within an hour, even though I exfoliated and moisturized before application (more on that here). And the quality of NYX’s Lip Lingerie collection just wasn’t up to par. But when bareMinerals came out with their Gen Nude collection and I saw that fun commercial on my television, my heart sang. Then I dropped $54 on these three perfect shades.
Like any good beauty editor, I did my research before selecting three shades to try. With over 60 shades in the collection, there was a lot to choose from! I knew I wanted to pick from the matte liquid lip collection versus their gloss and regular lipstick, and while these three look very similar to each other, they range in intensity and pigment.
What I Bought
The first shade on the left is XYZ, described as a cinnamon beige. This shade is the closest shade to “nude” I have found for my skin tone, and I absolutely adore it. It’s great for enhancing the natural color of my lips while giving it a slight beige tint. Basically, it’s very “my lips, but better,” which I love! I wear this during the day for any occasion.
The middle shade is rightfully called Bo$$, and this is where pink undertones come into play. No longer a brown, this shade is two notches darker than XYZ and is the shade I tend to wear on date night or when I’m dressing up a little more. I love that you can build this shade up a little more to make it even darker for the fall!
Finally, the last shade is Juju, and it’s considered a deep rosy mauve. This was my go-to shade in the summer as it’s more pink and vibrant than the others. It’s very fun and sweet–perfect for daytime or super feminine looks.
What I Thought
All these shades are matte and creamy, but not totally transfer-proof, which is fine with me! I’ve found that the “stay-all-day” shades dry out my lips way too quickly but these are far more moisturizing and comfortable to wear. You can rub your lips together however much you’d like without them feathering, and you can easily touch them up throughout the day without them getting patchy (something I could never do with Kyle’s Lip Kits). I think it’s also important to mention that these are scented–I’d say they smell like cupcakes, and it’s definitely noticeable enough to bother anyone who doesn’t like scented products.
